Toasty, creamy, and tangy—this protein-rich shake tastes a lot like cheesecake! But, unlike most desserts, it’s full of ingredients that will give you lots of energy for your day.

Kitchen Gear: 

Measuring cup 
Measuring spoons 
Grater or zester (adult needed)
Citrus squeezer (if you have one) 
Blender (adult needed)


1 cup
frozen or fresh blueberries (plus 2 ice cubes )
1 cup
milk or plain yogurt or a combination
1⁄4 cup
toasted pecans (to toast the pecans, put them on a small baking sheet in a 350-degree oven until they are fragrant and look a shade darker, about five minutes)
1 teaspoon
vanilla extract
Juice and grated zest of 1/2 lemon
dates (pitted)


  1. Put all the ingredients in the blender.
  2. Put the top on tightly. Turn the blender to a medium setting and blend until the mixture is smooth, about 1 minute.
  3. Serve right away—or store in a thermos or covered in the refrigerator, up to 4 hours.


* If you’re allergic to nuts, substitute 1⁄4 cup toasted wheat germ, oats, or sunflower seeds for the pecans.
